Resources for

The Center is open throughout the year. Therefore, work is available year around, through summer, school breaks and holidays. A variety of assignments and schedules are available within our operating hours of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. All positions require authorization to legally accept employment in the U. S. that is not limited to “on campus” employment. The current pay rate is $10.00 per hour.  From time to time there are projects and assignments that require specialized skills, knowledge and/or experience that may also offer premium pay.

Available Positions

The work assignments available, along with additional requirements and preferred qualifications, are described below:

Stack Management

Stack management provides physical access to all of the collections held by the CRL.  Stack Management Assistants page all materials requested on Interlibrary Loan and subsequently re-shelve all returned material.  All new additions to the collections are shelved by Stack Management Assistants and they in turn maintain shelf order through shelf reading and error correction.   The opportunity to participate in special projects also exists.  These usually involve work within a special collection including shelving, establishment of or maintenance of shelf order, and enclosure of fragile materials.   

Requirements and preferred qualifications:
Must possess an understanding of the research and classroom uses of primary and secondary source materials.  Must be able to maintain a regular 3-4 day per week schedule and work between 10 and 18 hours per week during the Center’s normal hours of operation of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  Must be willing and able to routinely lift up to 20 pounds and push a cart with up to 100 lbs. of library material upon it. Must be capable of organizing materials and performing alpha and numeric filing.  Must have the aptitude and tenacity to accurately perform detailed, repetitive clerical work.

Digital Production

Position is responsible for operating state of the art scanning equipment as well as executing the tasks and implementing the Quality Assurance measures necessary to produce high quality scans of printed and microfilmed material for digital transmission.

Requirements and preferred qualifications:
Must possess an understanding of the research and classroom uses of primary and secondary source materials.  Must be able to maintain a regular schedule and work between 8 and 18 hours per week during the Center’s normal hours of operation of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM..  Must be willing and able to routinely lift material weighing 5-10 pounds and can be required to push a book cart. Must be capable of organizing materials and performing alpha and numeric filing.  Must have the aptitude and tenacity to accurately perform detailed, repetitive clerical work.  Work requires the ability to exercise close vision for an extended period of time and the ability to adjust visual focus, repeatedly.   Library experience and prior experience scanning documents is preferred.  Prior production environment experience a plus.

Access Services

Help this customer interactive department sustain a track record of a 24 hour turn around on 90% of requests.  Assist with processing member requests by bar coding and creating item records for materials that are about to be shipped and materials that have been returned both in paper and digital form.

Requirements and preferred qualifications:
Must possess an understanding of the research and classroom uses of primary and secondary source materials.  Must be able to maintain a regular schedule and work between 8 and 18 hours per week during the Center’s normal hours of operation of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  Must be willing and able to routinely lift up to 20 pounds and push a cart with up to 100 lbs. of library material upon it. Must be capable of organizing materials and performing alpha and numeric filing.  Must have the aptitude and tenacity to accurately perform detailed, repetitive clerical work.  Fundamental keyboarding knowledge and data entry skills as well as sufficient computer literacy to be trained to use the basic functions of inter library loan systems and perform limited scanning of material are requirements.

Technical Services

Position is responsible for bar coding and inputting or deleting location and holdings information into the online catalog. 

Requirements and preferred qualifications:
Must possess an understanding of research and classroom uses of primary and secondary source materials.  Must be able to maintain a regular schedule and work between 8 and 18 hours per week during the Center’s normal hours of operation of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM..  Must be willing and able to routinely lift material weighing 5-10 pounds and can be required to push a book cart.  Must be capable of organizing materials and performing alpha and numeric filing.  Must have the aptitude and tenacity to accurately perform detailed, repetitive clerical work and possess computer key keyboarding skills. Library experience and ability to work with non-Western languages preferred.
